Forestry & Woodland Creation
With respect to preliminary site preparation and planting the following are some of the options available to the landowner:
- Herbicide spraying to remove all competing vegetation.
- Supply of transplant or plug tree stock.
- Machine/Mechanical planting.
- Hand planting on more complicated ground.
MAINTENANCE: Following planting the new woodland needs to be managed to ensure successful establishment. Indeed this is a requisite of the Woodland Grant Scheme where 30% of the planting grant is withheld for 5 years after planting to ensure the minimum stocking level is achieved. To this end we will:
- Inspect the new woodland regulary for disease and pest damage.
- Replace any significant losses to ensure an adequate stocking density.
- Over-spray with herbicides if required.
- Formative pruning of broad-leaved trees to ensure better form in the final crop where appropriate.
